This undergraduate publication for the Swinburne University Design Faculty strips back the story of people, staff, the place, courses, and work to its rawest and simplest presentation. Spare photography by Andrew Ashton, uncomplicated essays, confident typography and fragile newspaper print collaborated to make a 72 page colour publication.

The Industry Based Learning unit of the Swinburne University programme required a communication that helped employers understand and adopt this industry / tertiary collaboration. Rather than focus on a specific design style, we simply collected the things, tools, or objects typical of a contemporary creative environment and celebrated them is a modest printed document.
The studio devised the communication approach, developed the writing and image making, executed the printed design and produced the printed product. A ten week project.

Mapping detail
Coffee Supreme charged the studio to develop a low cost map which outline their favourite coffee spots in Melbourne.
The aim is to publish maps biannually with updated and new locations, along with new themes and image making. Armed with a detailed map of Melbourne, images made by Andy Sargent from South South West, patience and a fixation for detail, the first bookish edition is on the streets looking for new owners and friends.
The trickiest part of the project was working out a system of plotting out scores of locations, mostly in concentrated clusters. To plot these locations we started with mapping websites such as whereis and google maps. A warning for designers is to check the location outcomes, in most instances the website plotted marks tens of metres away from the actual spot.
The piece starts out as an A6 and folds out to A2, it is printed in two on Tudor RP 100 recycled paper.
Thanks again to Andy, Coffee Supreme and Gunn & Taylor Printers. Pick up your copy at your local Café that chooses Supreme Coffee in Melbourne.

Southern Truisms, Green Cape / Studio Pip and Co. image making project
Photographer Andrew Ashton / January 2010
Over the recent summer break one finds it difficult to forget about seeing, doing and making works. Photography is something we love to do which in turn pushes and explores a subject or idea.
Australia maybe a back water, if compared to its sporting life, for creative people and what Australia lacks in support for people who follow artful pursuits is overwhelmed by a raft inspiration.
Andrew (Ashton) has developed a range of images over the 2010 Summer break which explore the many expressions found skyward. Shot at Green Cape on the South Eastern wilderness corner of New South Wales in Australia, these image represent over several hundred images that capture the many moods found above.
These images are available for collectors, prices and high quality image (nothing like these crusty jpgs) are available upon application. Contact the studio for details.
