Best of Dutch Book Design 2006

Design is at the foremost of the Dutch psyche. At the most basic level of Dutch life a fundamental design is in place… the total annual water consumption of Japan is pumped from Dutch shores each and everyday to ensure Amsterdam remains three metres below sea level.

It is no surprise that Holland boasts the world’s first dedicated graphic design museum to open in Breda in 2008, or that it has an annual homage to publication design “The best Dutch Book Design exhibition“ at the Stedeliyk Museum CS, Amsterdam.

This exhibition is a hands on expo of fifty publications available for visitors to hold, compare, thumb and flick. There are no large scale printed outputs here, or a representative covers and spreads. Set aside a few hours, and some Euros — for entry fees, a splendid catalogue and potential to purchase actual pieces; a worthwhile experience for anyone interested in the potential of fine print and paper design awaits.
