Carousel Café is situated on the foreshore of Albert Park Lake on the outskirts of the city of Melbourne. The foreshore is a popular spot for visitors to meet. On any day dogs, joggers, sailing craft, ducks, walkers will make it’s five kilometres of walking paths and subsequent green spaces a place to exercise, relax and take in the outdoors.
food&desire briefed the studio to develop a new image that adopts the venue’s existing brand and reflect the environment. We developed a new brand that ties in with an existing look, then developed a range of illustrations of people interacting with Albert Park Lake with which we brought together into a range compositions for use on cafe collateral, signing and uniform.
Thanks again to the food&desire crew.

The studio has spent the last few months developing a range of brands for the business and government sectors. Spring Osteo Clinic is a new osteo practice located in Surrey Hills, east of Melbourne’s city centre.
The brief called for a robust mark and type treatment that communicated a new professional and contemporary clinic. The research process was again invaluable, as we discovered that a human graphic form strapped with the clinic’s name was a no go for this new brand – as it appeared that every osteo practice in Melbourne used the human form - realistic to abstract, in their brand identities.
At the concept and design stages a range of outcomes were presented – people and spring based, along with type and colour options. A clean custom typeface was approved and developed from scratch along with a spring symbol. We recommended a bright colour palette to assist with setting a positive mood for patients. The spring symbol was developed to convey notions of activity, growth, and positivity. The whole package enforced that Spring is a clinic that assists patients to start, or maintain a path of well being and good health.
The brand mark is being applied to signing, apparel, digital and print applications.
Thanks again to Catherine for your vision, excellent briefing and guidance.

Many publicity and events firms have brands that use stacked variations of the typeface Bodoni or Helveltica. Kate wanted something bold, classic and unique.
To start the process we asked Kate to write her name in her hand and she happened to have a style of writing that would translate wonderfully into a brand mark – like the hand of fashion designer Agnes B. We busied ourselves with graphically translating and interpreting her script into a simple mark. A website has been developed and stationery is to follow. Thanks again Kate for giving us your hand.

Pulse is a boutique health and rehabilitation centre for people looking for remedial massage and traditional Chinese medicine, or TCM. Part of the TCM process is assessing pulses and then using treatments to bring these pulses back into equilibrium, which is depicted in the brand variations.
We also developed a direct mail campaign that presents a variation to the whole alternative medicine thing, which often beats to the drum of mauves, dream catchers, crystals and whale music.
Brand, print collateral, signing, uniform and a simple web outcome was developed by the studio. Thanks goes to the Pulse team for their collaborative spirit.

The studio was invited by Moth Design and Bttb to contribute to the brand and communication work for a temporary pop-up venue in Melbourne (500 La Trobe Street) called The Factory. The Factory over the spring and summer of 2009/2010 will be a hub for events centred around Melbourne creative and design community. Along with private functions, open nights The Factory will be hosting several design markets, the first being 19 July 2009, (9am to 5pm, 500 La Trobe Street, Melbourne).
The naming was a collaboration with Moth Design and bttb. During a naming meeting the process of throwing about a range options that: addressed design, design’s fashionable nature, explored and skirted around the ideas with abstract associations to design – and then Kate threw into the forum – This is not a design market, and at that moment we all agreed upon the market’s name.
Brands for design related projects can follow several diverse paths – solutions that looks like a stand alone creative design outcome, or solutions that compliments the design it is representing. In almost all instances the studio can’t help producing solutions for the design sector that are neutral, complimentary, has that something that can’t be described and a twist.
In the spirit of Ellen Lupton and her book D.I.Y – Design It Yourself, the studio has developed a D.I.Y. identity for the THIS IS NOT A DESIGN MARKET project in Melbourne. Crossing through the – Design Market playfully references what the names suggests. The brand also comes with a set of instructions and guidelines, allowing designers working on the project to modify the mark to suit their project. The brand is capable of consistent form yet have many looks.
The first design market opens Sunday 19 July 2009, 9am to 5pm, 500 La Trobe Street, Melbourne as part of the State of Design festival. The market is calling for stall holders for details visit the market for details.
