Kat Macleod from Ortolan has developed another wonderful diva pitted with corse stenciled title type and the spare uncomprising type of Mr Frutiger, in blue jeans mode.

The studio has developed a new brand that is totally in the hands of the crew at Batch Espresso.

During the process of researching how the café communicates with it‘s customers, the humble self inking stamp was a practical image making tool that the staff put to many uses — versatile enough to appear on receipts to paper coffee cups.

In developing the typemark, image and paper applications, we also explored the application and usage of stamps. Along with a range of graphic assets we also develop a guide to use them. This guide is intended to be a guide only, and this process allows individuals to develop their own twist of what Batch means to them.

Business cards, postcards, book marks, paper cups and signing is just the beginning it will be interesting to see where the guys take the look — we expect that the printed outcomes will be as good as their coffee.

The Unofficial Soundtrack to the 2009 French Film Festival takes us into a garden of sorts. Kat Macleod from Ortolan has developed a wonderful garden nymph contrasted with twisted, crunchy, chattering type setting the scene for new sounds from France in 2009.

The studio was commissioned to develop music packaging for SBS‘s seminal travel show Global Village.

The series has an ongoing theme that explores exotic creatures that populate all corners of the earth. We submitted a range of creatures and a beetle was selected for it jewel like qualities. The illustration of the exotic beetle was developed by our image maker in residence Sarah Pickering. A quirky botanic rendering of the beetle was selected and the final rendering was completed in watercolour and pencil.

The studio was commissioned to develop a house wine packaging for Pearl Restaurant, inspired by Pearl‘s Sommelier — John Evans. Interpretations and images of our Thin Man were developed by illustrators Jane Reiseger and Sarah Pickering, which was then fused with Thin Man typography executed in a red foil that blocks over modest black printing. The range starts with a Pinot Noir, a white wine and sparkling will follow soon.

The So Frenchy So Chic series, the unofficial soundtrack to the French Film Festival, is in its fourth year. Producing the communication work is a simple and chaotic process — engage the canny eye and talents of Kat Macleod, from Ortolan, to develop the season‘s diva; with diva in hand the studio madly puts together the packaging and promotion collateral; all under the constant supervision of Filter Music‘s founder JF (the Frenchman). This process typically takes place in the closing and crazy weeks of Christmas. 2008‘s diva makes a departure from collage and rendering to bold dashes of painterly colour contrasted with the whim of sparely cast pencil marks.
