Publication set covers – printer’s mockups
It has been another modest start to the year, and even though the Australian economy is running well as compared to other economies – the world of graphic design has been lack lustre. Many potential projects seem to be in a state of limbo, as many clients make sense of a nervous and risk averse market.
We are working on a raft of smaller projects, which chew up much of our head space, in between we have reviewed, drafted, scraped and redrafted a range of promotional outcomes, that present an interesting message while avoiding being too internally focused, or self indulgent.
A comprehensive yet prudent set of booklets had been developed that explores our graphic identity (brand) work and image design output. The booklets are being printed offset rather than in newsprint allowing for clean and highly detailed reproduction.
For clients, potential and new, interested in being in the first round of dispatch, please send Andrew an email for your copy to ideas (at) peoplethings (dot) com

Café noir with Andy Sargent of SSW and Studio Pip and Co

Café noir detail
Packaging is a part of the design output that has alluded Andrew in last twenty year. In the past he had produced FMCG ranges for Allen’s Confectionery, Colgate and Panamax to only have international HQ smash his artworked ranges with some new global design directive.
In between there has been some boutique wine labels, a raft of corporate packaging for Country Road, and a coffee bag range for boutique roaster Coffee Supreme. We will document this project in the coming weeks, needless to say the first skew of this outcome the 1 kg bags has hit the streets with a super underground softer than soft launch i.e. the new bags are being used with no fanfare.
The studio is responsible for the entire production, image making to artwork, except with the Café Noir outcome where we collaborated with artist and designer Andy Sargent, residing at South South West studio. Andy was invited to respond to the Café Noir theme that we developed for the darker richer blends. Andy armed with his distinctive style put together a Café Noir scape, where maybe the guy or the girl gets dumped. Lurking in the background is our familiar bear bringing a little fairy tale / “Dark Sided” (look that one up on youtube) reality to the situation.
More to come, thanks to Andy at SSW and Justin at Supreme for pushing on through an interesting process.
Supreme can be found all over Melbourne, Andy at South South West

At the end of several days during an Autumn Easter at over 1200 metres above sea level in country New South Wales, Andrew was consumed with a light that is brief, intense, colours vivid, glimpses haunting and momentary. Who needs a crappy conversation filler when a day can end like this.

Melbourne’s hottest Japanese bar is booked, copies of Astro Boy and Blade Runner are sourced too. We were tasked to develop event collateral designed to shake the woes of 2009 and welcome in 2010.
We started with exploring traditional Japanese symbols and images and developed an illustration of intertwined Koi that also is an abstract of the Ying and Yang symbol. Vertical type setting is exploited as well as a one off vertical Gunn & Taylor brand. The Japanese custom of new years postcard giving – nengajo, is called upon and range of Gunn & Taylor new year postcards are developed as a gift for the night. All we need is generous slabs of white paper, black and red ink.
Thank you Mr Gunn and happy new year!

Postcard 2041
Over the recent summer break one finds it difficult to forget about seeing, doing and making works. Photography is something we love to do which in turn pushes and explores a subject or idea.
Australia maybe a back water, if compared to its sporting life, for creative people and what Australia lacks in support for people who follow artful pursuits is overwhelmed by a raft inspiration.
Andrew (Ashton) has developed a range of images over the 2010 Summer break which explore the many expressions found skyward. Shot at Green Cape on the South Eastern wilderness corner of New South Wales in Australia, these image represent over several hundred images that capture the many moods found above.
These images are available for collectors, prices and high quality image (nothing like these crusty jpgs) are available upon application. Contact the studio for details.
