Hong Kong is one of those great cities where the heights of nature and man made activity clash. Set on the side of a picturesque harbour with towering mountains, rocketing buildings reach to the sky like some sort of suburban picket fence gone wild. Andrew was in Hong Kong for five days during the 2010 Business of Design Week. In between speaking commitments a little wandering took place with his willing camera.

In the suburbs a Homewrecker can mean several things – a building demolition crew, or an adult outside a family unit that tempts the mother or the father into a extra marital sexually based affair. Homewreckers have strewn history and have made trouble across classes and cultures, as well as making sudden big gaps in the streetscape. Beware the Homewrecker.

At the end of the day series, Oberon / Studio Pip and Co. image making project
Photographer Andrew Ashton / April 2010
At the end of several days during an Autumn Easter at over 1200 metres above sea level in country New South Wales, Andrew was consumed with a light that is brief, intense, colours vivid, glimpses haunting and momentary. Who needs a crappy conversation filler when a day can end like this.

Southern Truisms, Green Cape / Studio Pip and Co. image making project
Photographer Andrew Ashton / January 2010
Over the recent summer break one finds it difficult to forget about seeing, doing and making works. Photography is something we love to do which in turn pushes and explores a subject or idea.
Australia maybe a back water, if compared to its sporting life, for creative people and what Australia lacks in support for people who follow artful pursuits is overwhelmed by a raft inspiration.
Andrew (Ashton) has developed a range of images over the 2010 Summer break which explore the many expressions found skyward. Shot at Green Cape on the South Eastern wilderness corner of New South Wales in Australia, these image represent over several hundred images that capture the many moods found above.
These images are available for collectors, prices and high quality image (nothing like these crusty jpgs) are available upon application. Contact the studio for details.

Made in China series, Beijing / Studio Pip and Co. image making project
Photographer Andrew Ashton / October 2009
Andrew has been in China for the last week as one of the speakers for the recent ICOGRADA world congress in Beijing. Amid catching speakers Irma Boom, Lust, Michael Vanderbyl, the guys for BaseLab, Fiona Ruby, Alice Tremlow and Peter Hall, there were a few hours where the smog in city parted briefly and let in some blue sky.
